Why America leave Afghanistan? Many have asked this question as the number of casualties in Afghanistan continue to rise not only in Afghanistan but throughout the region. Unfortunately many politicians and military advisors seem to think that it is a good idea to keep troops in Afghanistan indefinitely. Yet if we were to leave Afghanistan what will happen afterward?
If American and coalition forces decided to withdraw from Afghanistan, it is possible that a political settlement is not feasible. In fact it is likely that if a complete and unconditional withdrawal is not achieved, then the military withdraws as well. Since international terrorists also operate in Afghanistan due to the presence of the Taliban and other groups, any American troop presence would be a double edged sword.
With or without American troops on the ground, would the government in Pakistan accept an American withdrawal? After all they currently support the Pakistani military and want to see the United States remain in Afghanistan. The Chinese also have a stake in this as they have funded and supplied many of the cells that have infiltrated the country. Even Iran would gain access to oil through any eventual withdrawal from Afghanistan. It is clear that the ramifications of American withdrawal from Afghanistan would be to the detriment of the United States and its allies.
What about the future security of our population here at home? What would happen to our economy if we left the country and the populace of Afghanistan moved into the chaos created by instability and war? Would our currency still grow due to increased trade with other nations? Will our soldiers to be safe from the violence back at home? How would our tax dollars benefit this growing nation and how is all of this going to affect our future security?
With all the answers to these questions, why America leave Afghanistan now is an interesting question. While it may not seem like a big deal, it is a big decision that may have long-term consequences. There is no sense in us withdrawing from an important mission and having no plan for success.
While there is no real answer to the question, “Why America leave and why now?” one thing is for certain; we are leaving and that is a decision that will impact us for a lifetime. Thousands of our young men and women in Afghanistan are dying every year. This is a very real and serious issue that we face in this country and we need to address it now. More importantly, we need to learn the lessons that we have so we can never go back and why America leave.
Some might suggest that why America leave and why now is to ensure that Afghanistan stays stable and that the Chinese do not take advantage of the weak economic situation. However, we also know that if China fails to pick up the pace then Pakistan will be pushed into the cracks and potentially attack the United States. Therefore, why America leave and why now is because we have no choice and the sooner the better.
The best way to get the best results is to have a strategy and follow it through. If we fail to do this then there is no point in having a military presence in Afghanistan. And it is better not to have any military presence at all. Why America leave and why now is simply a question of the American people deciding whether they want to follow the war plan or do they want to pull out and allow things to work their way out. If they fail to do so, then the whole mission is a waste of time and money. Please consider this in 2021.
